New Jersey Lawmakers Again Making Push For Online Gambling

New Jersey lawmakers apparently do not like being told no. Lawmakers who have passed online gambling legislation are back again, attempting to this time gain Governor Chris Christie’s signature.

Governor Christie vetoed legislation earlier this year that would have made New Jersey the first state to regulate Internet gambling. Lawmakers in both the Senate and the Assembly passed a bill that would have authorized online casinos, based at Atlantic City casinos.

The governor bowed to pressure from within his Republican Party, and vetoed the legislation. Now, lawmakers are busy at work crafting yet another online gambling bill, but this time they will be stressing an area of gambling that is widely accepted in the US.

State lotteries have become a cash machine for many states, New Jersey being one. The new plan is to allow gamblers to buy their lottery tickets online, or from their mobile devices. Gamblers will not only be permitted to bet online, but also be paid from the lottery directly to their bank accounts.

“This is a way for lawmakers to get something on the books that allows online gambling,” said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. “If they can get this through, my guess is they would then either next session, or in the near future, try their luck again with another full-scale online gambling bill.”

New Jersey has fallen behind in the race to regulate online gambling in the US. In the months since Christie vetoed the legislation, other states have moved quickly on drafting their own online gambling bills. Washington D.C. has authorized online gambling, and Florida, California, and Nevada are not far behind

NFC East Teams Redskins And Giants Looking To Gain Ground

Dallas had started the season at 5-0 and, last week, was looking to solidify their place as one of the best teams in the NFL. Of course, that did not happen, and now the Cowboys are just holding on to being the best team in their division.

The New York Giants started the season slowly, losing their first two games, but now after winning four straight, the Giants look like a team to compete for not only a divisional crown, but a conference championship.

Joe Gibbs in Washington is keeping a close eye on both the Cowboys and the Giants, two teams that Washington is battling with for first place. The Redskins believe they have just as many weapons in place as the other two contenders and looks to prove that Sunday against a short manned Cardinal team.

Today, the Giants face the 49ers, who have been picked by many prognosticators as a sleeper contender in the NFC, but has not performed up to that level yet this year.

Washington is looking to inch closer to the Cowboys by beating a much injured Arizona team, and if both them and the Giants win, and the Cowboys lose, there could be a three way tie for the NFC East, which is something that was unexpected earlier this season.

Steelers And Broncos Set For Football Night in America

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a bit of a Super Bowl hangover last year, but now they appear to have returned to championship form, and are ready to make a run at New England and Indianapolis.

The Broncos were supposed to be a team that was built to compete for a title this year, but they have started the season dreadfully and now are just looking to win a game to get back on track.

This could be a tough game for the Steelers who have their next three games against division rivals, so they may be looking beyond the Bronco game. One thing that could prevent that, however, is the Steelers history of playing well in nationally televised night games.

The last time Denver played on their home field, they took their worst defeat ever at home, losing by over 40 points to the Chargers, so they will surely be trying to put that memory behind him with a strong showing tonight.

With Baltimore losing earlier in the day, Pittsburgh can expand their division lead to two games over the Ravens and two and a half over the idle Cleveland Browns.

The Broncos, while starting slowly, still have thoughts of winning their division as nobody else in the division has capitalized on their slow start.

Game time is set for 8:15 tonight on NBC.
